Variety has announced that Dove’s movie Descendants was viewed by 6.6 million households on it’s television premiere night. Descendants was the most watched cable television movie this year. The number (6.6) is the highest for any Disney Channel Original Movie in the past two years. In addition to that, Descendants had 1.4 million views on the WATCH Disney app during the week before it aired on television, setting a record for viewing and engagement in that app. When added together, Descendants got around 8 million views, which is more than High School Musical‘s (also directed by Kenny Ortega) television premiere views.
The Descendants soundtrack also hit #1 on the iTunes soundtrack albums chart and #2 on the iTunes all albums chart.
Dove’s Descendants songs “Rotten to the Core,” “If Only,” “Set It Off,” and “Evil Like Me” all made it into the top 10 soundtrack song charts as #1, #4, #7, and #9, respectively.
