Dove Cameron is one of the most versatile Disney actresses, playing the mischievous purple-haired daughter of Maleficent in Descendants and not one but two roles as the Rooney twins on Liv and Maddie. In a recent interview with Playbill, Dove got honest about the challenges of doing double duty.
“Right when Liv and Maddie had started, there was no roadmap for how to do a show where one girl played two,” she explained about her dual part as girly superstar Liv and tomboy basketball MVP Maddie. “It’s just not something that is often done, so we had nothing to refer to.”
Because the network was delving into unchartered territory, Dove worked very long days and it was difficult to adapt. “Before we really figured out a rhythm and a way to get through it — and have me be alive at the end of the day — it was a long period of time where I was really struggling with the energy, and the workload, and shooting everything twice, then recording on the weekends, and still sleeping, and having a social life,” Dove revealed.
